“You Have Never Been to a Place Like Vital Before” proclaims Vital Climbing Gym. And they’re right. It’s awesomely unique.
Though their locations in Carlsbad and Murrieta, California have been around for years, their newest gym, located in Bellingham, Washington, just opened earlier this summer. Bellingham seems to be the perfect spot for such a gym, a decent sized town with a small town feel and plenty of easy access to the great outdoors.
Other than the well-thought out climbing walls and routes, Vital is well-known for its 24-hour member access. You sign up, get an ID card, and then you can come in whenever you want. An espresso machine, WIFI, and music controls are at your hands. Dogs are welcome, there is a slackline for free use, and a little exercise area with dumbbells and stationary bicycles is available.
The entire community at Vital Climbing Gym is extremely friendly and welcoming. Though the gym is often filled with experienced climbers, everyone is more than eager to help get beginners up to speed.
Keep in mind that Vital is a bouldering-only gym. This means that the highest walls are really fairly short and that no ropes are needed. All the safety equipment that is needed is a padded mat to land on and some common sense.
