Snowboarding season is right around the corner and it’s about time to stock up on any new gear that you might need for another fun season on the mountain. My favorite pieces of gear to shop for – aside from new boards – are snowboarding jackets.

At the end of last season my current jacket was looking and feeling a little raggedy. I was in the market for a new jacket and I opted for the Holden Coaches Snowboard Jacket. I can’t tell you how excited I am to rock it again this year.

There are a ton of different reasons that I chose the Holden Coaches Jacket as my current snowboarding jacket. Chief among them was something that I don’t often consider when buying new gear – the fact that Holden is a really cool company. They started up in 2002 in Portland, Oregon – pretty much my backyard – under the wings of K2 Sports. Sales were tough as they are for any fledging business, especially in an industry as hard to break into as snowboarding, but today Holden is doing just fine and is even an independent company now after breaking off from K2. Holden uses eco-friendly materials for all of their outwear further adding to my fondness of the company. They have even developed a fabric that is made of hemp and recycled plastic bottles that is waterproof while remaining breathable. If that isn’t awesome, then what is?

The Holden Coaches Snowboard Jacket isn’t made of water bottles but it is pretty dang cool nevertheless. As far as jackets go it has a very clean design. If you have a simple style, then the Coaches Jacket is for you. It comes in a variety of colorways including camo, bright yellow, red, and black – I chose the Pacific Blue colorway myself. The jacket makes you look very slick on the slopes and can even be worn around town or to the bar without making you feel like a fool.

It’s super plush 80g insulation keeps you comfy and cozy even in frigid conditions and its 10,000mm waterproof rating ensures that you stay dry. The jacket’s 10,000mm breathability and pit zips keep you feeling cooled down and refreshed when blasting through powder.

Apart from keeping you well-ventilated, warm, and dry, the Holden Coaches Jacket is very comfortable. It has a regular fit – not too slim and not too baggy – that keeps it from getting in the way of anything that you’re doing on the board. The jacket allows for a great range of motion and doesn’t restrict you in any way.

Is the Holden Coaches Jacket my favorite snowboarding jacket of all time? No. However, it is a simple jacket that keeps you warm, dry, comfortable, and stylish. At just under $200, the jacket doesn’t break the bank. Better yet, it is very durable and should last a few seasons for even the most abusive of riders.
