A durable, pocket-sized speaker, the Boombot REX Ultraportable Speaker is a new Kickstarter project that is aimed towards providing high-quality sound for people on the go. Though they already reached their project goal earlier this week, there is still time to donate to the Boombot cause.

If you didn’t have the chance to read our post on Bean Snowboard’s Boston Artist Series Kickstarter last week, you might not know what exactly Kickstarter is. To make a possibly long explanation super short, it is a funding platform for creative projects. You set a goal and go about raising money to meet it. If you meet the goal by a set date, you keep the money that you raised. If you fail to meet the goal by a set date, the money is given back to the contributors. The projects all support individuals and local businesses and most of the time contributors receive a little one-of-a-kind swag for their donations.

But Boombotix, the company behind the Boombot, already reached their Kickstarter goal, so enough about that. Let’s talk, for a minute, about why they were able to reach their goal so quickly.

The main reason that they were able to do so is that their product, the Boombot REX Ultraportable Speaker, is absolutely state-of-the-art. It’s the first speaker of its kind. It’s durable and rugged enough to take into the outdoors and its waterproofing even makes it perfect for trips to the mountain to tear up fresh pow (it’s even possible to use while surfing). Plus, a number of handy interchangeable grills and belt clips allow you to easily clip yours just about anywhere – your belt, your backpack straps, your jacket, or your bicycle handlebars are all good places to start.

Better yet, the sound quality of this beast is absolutely amazing. The folks over at Boombotix really put their fair share of work (and more) in as the Boombot is the smallest 2.1 sound system in the world. Even cooler is the fact that it can be connected wirelessly to a number of electronic devices including smartphones, iPods, tablets, and laptops.

A noise canceling microphone also gives you the power to connect with your friends via the Boombot. You can choose to answer, deny, or end a phone call with the click of a button – all while your phone is safely stashed in your pocket (which is great for us snowboarders). The Boombot is even compatible with Siri, so if you’re an iPhone user, you’re in luck.Boombot REX Ultraportable Speaker 1

At the end of the day, the Boombot REX Ultraportable Speaker is one of the coolest new gadgets around.
